For some, being a professional arborist might mean dressing the crews smart and having washed trucks. For others, it may mean having a clean sheet on health and safety. Some will argue that being qualified makes you a professional arborist. Professionalism encompasses all of these attributes in a company. But, it also covers much more.
So what does it mean to be a professional arborist, and why does it matter?
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines professionalism as “the conduct, aims, or qualities that characterize or mark a profession or a professional person”; and it defines a profession as “a calling requiring specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation.”
These definitions imply that professionalism encompasses a number of different attributes, and, together, these attributes identify and define a professional.
So, what are these attributes of a professional arborist?
Specialised knowledge in arboriculture
First and foremost, professionals are known for their specialized knowledge. They’ve made a deep personal commitment to develop and improve their skills, and, where appropriate, they have the qualification and certifications that serve as the foundation of this knowledge.
All arborists working for Tree Care Auckland, may it be specialised sub-contractors or full time employees, are qualified and hold all necessary certifications to comply with New Zealand legislation.
Professional arborists get the job done. They’re reliable and they keep their promises. If circumstances arise that prevent them from delivering on their promises, they manage expectations up front, and they do their best to make the situation right.
At Tree Care Auckland we offer all our clients written quotations. This ensures that all involved understand the exact volume of work that needs to be conducted. Often we will supply the client with pictures of the work from before and after. This is part of our quality control system.
Tree Care Auckland has an integrated quality control system. This means all our work is monitored for the health and safety as well as for the quality of the workmanship.
Professional arborists work to standards
All tree work conducted by Tree Care Auckland is completed to the German and/or British tree care standard.
Professional arborists stay up to date with the developments in the industry. Our employees are all members of the New Zealand Arboriculture Association (NZ Arb). Some are also members of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). We visit as a team the NZ Arb annual conference and participate in tree climbing competitions.
